Mummy Issues - Part 8
OK, here is another part, because I haven't posted for so long
Chapter 3 - Part 2...
I was ready to run down, when I noticed something else. Her lower lip was trembling, and then I recognized - she wasn’t angry. She was—sad? Upset? Bewildered? It looked like she was startled to see me and afraid, at the very least. I struggled to push aside my own fear as I started to think about her. She had just awoken from thousands of years of peaceful slumber—which I had disturbed, only for her to find herself in a strange room where a strange young boy gazed upon her with fear and terror in his gaze! I felt sorry for her all of a sudden—and this feeling overwhelmed my fear.
“Do not be—do not be scared or upset, Mummy, I do not mean you any harm!” I spoke hesitantly, putting both of my hands up as I finally let go the doorknob and slowly started to step forward.
The Mummy looked at me with her brows drawing up, wincing visibly as she drew back stiffly against the back of the crate she was still sitting in. Her movements were slow, and made it seem like she was ‘rusty’. She moved with a stiffness and looked pained as she did.
I took two more steps closer toward the middle of the attic, as she looked at me and flinched once more, her eyes flashing with fear.
“I-I— I do not mean you any harm Mummy!” I repeated slowly and clearly, my eyes fixing on hers as I tried to show her that I was being truthful, my hands staying up in the air before me.
“I-I-I…” The Mummy suddenly let out, imitating me, but her voice sounded slow and her words jumbled. She repeated, “I-I-I” and blinked a few times. “M…Mmm…” She blinked harder.
“Mummy?” I repeated, sounding curious. Was she trying to repeat what she had heard me call her?
“Mumm…” The Mummy’s lips pulled to the side as she tried the sounds out on her tongue, the word sounded distorted but I made it out. Yes! She was trying to repeat what I had called her! I felt amazed, blown away.
The Mummy was not only alive—but she was trying to sit up and talk to me!!!!
I felt a sudden heady rush of excitement coursing through me, the fear I had been feeling still lingered—but this beautiful woman, barely concealed by the left overs of they mummy wrappings was trying to talk to me! And she seemed more scared of me than I was of her!
All of this made me feel less fearful and relaxed me to a degree. I could still feel my heart pounding in my chest but I was now more excited and carried away by what was happening right before my eyes! Had I indeed made this happen? Had I awoken a Mummy? No longer was I alone in the house!
I took couple more steps towards her, and now I was standing at the foot of the crate.
“Mummy,” I pointed to the Mummy and then pulled my hand back to point at myself as I tapped once on my chest. “Sami. Sah-mee…” I told her, repeating myself. “Sah-mee…”
“Sa….m…h…mm…ee…” The Mummy struggled, the corners of her lips twitching as she frowned, it took her effort to speak but her voice did not scare me; it was a throaty kind of voice, rich and cadent.
“That’s right! You are a Mummy—Muh—mee and I am Sami,” I tentatively smiled at her and she watched me closely, her gaze sharpening a little as the glassy look left her eyes and she seemed to no longer need to blink quite so often.
“Y…y…Sah-m…” The Mummy winced as she pulled her arm up to mimic me pointing - it looked like the movement hurt her as she drew in her breath a little sharply.
“Sah-mee—” I nodded once, pulling my gaze toward hers with effort. “You… seem to be moving slowly, and it hurts you?” I uttered, seeing her wince again as she tried to extend a finger but thought better of it.
She said nothing and seemed to be studying my profile and I felt my face warm under her scrutiny, with a little heat rising in me.
“The salve! Maybe it will help you feel better, and make your joints stronger.” - The container was where I left it the previous day. The mummy did not let me out of her sight as I stepped to take it, she was focused on me and it gave me chills but at the same time, I was entranced by the sight of her!
Those striking and piercing green eyes were enough to drive a boy wild, her thick and lustrous red mane was a beautiful auburn color and her body was most alluring with inches of her pale white skin visible to me.
I tried not to stare—I likely failed at this—but did bring the salve over to her. I mimed scooping out the salve and then spreading it onto her with my hand performing the requisite actions. The Mummy simply stared at me; her gaze distracted but turbulent seeming.
I undid the stopper of the vessel containing the salve, raising it to show her—especially the hieroglyphic inscription printed on the vessel but she kept her gaze on me instead of looking at it.
“I will spread this on your…body, your skin,” I stammered, as I fumbled with the stopper, almost dropping it under her gaze which had turned curious and a little distraught as if she did not like that I was holding an object probably wondering what on earth I was trying to do!
“I do not want to hurt you—this should be nice for you,” I promised, scooping some salve out and I moved over the crate—as I did, she drew back with a sharp pull that had her wince and shut her eyes as pain struck her.
